Big Brother

June 27, 2009

It’s summer again and stuff on telly gets really bad. All the good series take a break, so the only thing left apart from your daily soaps, the news is Big Brother. But soon, they should stop doing that too.

There are too many attention seeking, fame obsessed people on it. What happened to the girl next door, the bloke down the pub, your normal average friend? No, all there is now is your ultra blonde glamour model, a gay hair dresser and a multicultural bunch from all corners of the world.

The fourth eviction took place yesterday and it was Russian bride, Angel’s turn to leave the house. She really bored me and gave me a painful feeling of embarassment so I might actually start watching it a bit more. I doubt it though.

Will probably only keep on watching the Friday live show. I like Davina McCall. I like to see her black outfits. A lot more fashionable than Anne Robinson’s on The Weakest Link.

So if there aren’t any major scandals going on inside that house, I won’t be watching it. I never used to watch Celebrity BB until the Jade Goody and Shilpa Shetty issue. But isn’t it time they throw in some new housemates? Usually it spices things up in there when another complete stranger shows up.

I’m still hoping Rodrigo wins, only because he’s Brazilian and speaks with that exotic accent.

The End of an Era

June 25, 2009

He was with us for 50 years, almost 51. The King of Pop. Michael Jackson.

He’s passed away today after suffering a cardiac arrest. I’m still in shock. Not surprised but in absolute shock.

He changed music. The music videos. The dance steps. He’s a legend and there will never be anyone like him.

May he rest in peace.

Added 26 June:

The day after and I’m still in shock. Driving, I listen to the tributes on Radio1 and the only thing they talk about in the news is about Michael Jackson. How great he was. The impact he’s had. The legacy he’s leaving behind. The scandals are also mentioned, the court case, the plastic surgeries, the lightning of the skin, his monkey friend.

Trevor Nelson mentioned Bob Marley and Marvin Gaye, who also died young. Wyclef on Twitter: “RT James Brown Dec 25 Aaliyah Aug 25 Left Eye April 25 Michael Jackson June 25. Two plus Five is Seven,Seven is the num of completion. R I P”

A tribute song has already been made. Better on the Other Side featuring Game, Chris Brown, Diddy, Polow Da Don, Mario Winans, Usher and Boyz II Men, produced by DJ Khalil.

I recently watched Notorious, the film about Notorious BIG, Biggie Smalls, where at the end, real life footage is shown how people are celebrating his music in the streets of Brooklyn. Now, there are people celebrating worldwide. Who hasn’t tried to do a moonwalk?

Watch Michael Jackson as a little boy in this first footage of him performing. The soul in that little body is phenomenal.

Poor little boy, if he only knew what would happen to him. May he be in a better place.

H&M+Jimmy Choo=TRUE

June 17, 2009

Great news in my ears. The best designer collaboration H&M has done so far. Yes, I have high expectations. I love shoes. And the clothes have actually been designed to match the accessories and not the other way around.

I’m just so happy that I’m being given the chance to afford a pair of Jimmy Choo’s, which would cost me the same as a months rent otherwise.

H&M has previously worked with Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Viktor&Rolf causing chaos at their stores. The new Jimmy Choo collection is about to hit the stores 14 November. Only 200 stores worldwide. See you there!

Terminator Salvation

June 17, 2009

Can’t say I was overly excited about watching the new Terminator. I haven’t even watched the one that came out a few years ago. But I did it and it had to be done at the cinema. If it’s action, special effects, it’s not the same at home.

I enjoy actions and that’s what you get, and a lot of it. Terminator Salvation, the fourth in the sequels has left Arnold Schwarzenegger out of the set to work on his politics. However, there’s some old footage of him that has been cut into this one. It looked a bit odd but better than what I had expected and it was quite late into the film. I was actually sitting waiting for it.

So, John Connor (Christian Bale) is back with an army. The year is 2018 and the Skynet’s machines have pretty much taken over the world or at least that part of America. The machines are not disguised in human bodies anymore, which was a huge disappointment for me. They’re simply clumsy yet powerful robots in different shapes and sizes.

It was absolutely worth seeing this actionpacked blockbuster. Still I’m more excited about other films due to premiere this summer like the new Transformers. Why? I’m not a 13-year-old boy. No. I didn’t play with them when I was younger. My brother did. I just liked the first one and happen to be a big fan of Shia LaBeouf. He always have some witty jokes.

When Love Takes Over

June 7, 2009

Smells like a summer hit. I’m already hearing it about 3, 4 times a day on the radio and still, I’m not bored of it.

Kelly Rowland’s voice is so beautiful in David Guetta’s When Love Takes Over. It’s just a joy to listen to.

Those Radio 1 presenters have been going on and on about the music video, saying you have to see it all the time. Kelly Rowland is absolutely beautiful. They probably got paid to do it because it’s not really that special.

Even the video smells like a summer hit. A sunny day that progresses to a beach party at night. To see the video click here.

Rhianna and Kanye West in Paranoid

June 3, 2009

It’s actually a cool video. Music videos aren’t what they used to be. Since they’re all on the Internet, I only see what I select and not what is shown on the music channels. The days when music channels were on in the background are long time gone and I don’t even have MTV anymore.

Anyway, so the rumour I heard about Rhianna and Kanye West being romantic with each other might have been made up from their video collaboration. True or false? As it is these days it can be enough with a cheek kiss, a smile and you in love, romantically involved.

I guess they would make a good couple, high profile. One beaten, one dumped. Just watch the video…

5 July, Hyde Park, Wireless festival, Kanye West is headlining and the rest of the line up is looking hot. I will be there so watch this space because I will probably have something to say.

Welcome to the Hollister’s

June 1, 2009

Up one, two, a garden chair in a patio, lights are turned down, quite dark, quite cosy. Look right, look left, still dark. Right, down one, two into the darkness only lightened up by some spotlights here and there.

That’s the new shop, Hollister, recently opened in Southampton’s West Quay shopping centre. Not a restaurant, a chic bar, not somebody’s home. A shop where you can hardly see what’s being sold, yes clothes and you’ll see it if you hold it in the light if you can find enough light. Oh, and if you dare to touch and hold the clothes.

I bet the shop workers there don’t have to spend hours tidying and folding the clothes, like workers in Primark, since the clothes seem to be part of an exhibition.

Apparently to get a job there, you’ve got to be a model with a portfolio. Why would a model give up their modelling career to work as a sales assistant? I also heard they’ve got to speak with an American accent. The firstĀ  rather short ‘model’ greeted me with a what’s up, so I’ll guess she ticked the box but the other one further in the store had more of an Eastern European accent but she was catwalk tall. So maybe they had to lower their criteria and settle for the best they could get. This is Southampton and Southampton is quite chavy.

I have to admit that the assistants were pretty but I still think their purpose of being there is to serve customers and not just model around even though the clothes probably look better on them. Still, you can hardly see them.

The reason why I was a bit excited to go in there, besides it being a new store, was because of Abercrombie and Fitch, it had been advertised on the store front before it opened. But in the dark, I didn’t find any A&F clothes. I didn’t try anything on but I hope the lighting is better in the fitting rooms but maybe that’s the way to fool customers. Everything looks better in the dark, even the price tag since you can’t find the price.

A new tactic to go by in recession times. I’ve been to many stores, but nothing like this.

I haven’t been in to any other Hollister stores, but I know there’s on in Westfield, London. So next time I’m there I’ll have to go in just see if the same theme is followed with the ‘models’ and the lighting. Not for the clothes because they’re nothing but boring casual basics. I might have to try the jeans though, for fit. Well-fitted jeans are hard to find.

BGT 2009 Winners – Diversity

June 1, 2009

Why is it a shock? As it said on the headline of one of the tabloids.

Sure, I didn’t expect them to win. I just wanted them to beat Flawless, which they did when the top 3 were anounced. But I wasn’t surprised they won, the were good, very skilled and talented. I didn’t vote because I never do but there were a whole lot of people who did vote that thought the same as me.

Not even the judges belived in them since two predicted Flawless would win and the other one, Stavros Flatley. A bit sad since they should know better. So, I’m just happy the public knew better.
